Will Help Veterans Transition to Maritime Industry Jobs

JACKSONVILLE, FL – On Wednesday, June 4, the Port of Jacksonville will host a “Military to Maritime” event sponsored by the American Maritime Partnership, the voice of the domestic maritime industry, Crowley Maritime and others, to help current and former members of the military transition to a career in the domestic maritime industry. The free event, which will be held at the JAXPORT cruise terminal from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., will provide attendees the opportunity to speak with hiring, licensing and union representatives, tour vessels, and hear first-hand accounts from current employees and crewmembers about careers in the industry.

 

What:
“Military to Maritime,” a free, informative career event for servicemen and women transitioning from the military to a maritime-related field, which can involve merchant marine positions at sea, shore-side support, or those positions associated with shipping and logistics.

JAXPORT Cruise Terminal, 9810 August Drive, Jacksonville, FL 3222

 

When:
June 4, 2014, from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m.

More than 30 employers, including shipping and logistics companies, maritime training academies, ship repair companies, labor organizations, and government agencies will be on hand to talk to current and former military personnel who are interested in beginning the next chapter in their careers.

 

While the unemployment rate among veterans has steadily declined in recent years, over 720,000 servicemen and women are still out of work, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The U.S. maritime industry’s goal is to provide those veterans with an opportunity to maximize their professional strengths and learn about exciting career possibilities in a dynamic industry.
